Open at the core

Inspect it, adapt it, and run it on your own infrastructure.

The Metaport application you self-host is the same core product we ship. Only the billing and account provisioning used to operate our hosted service remain proprietary.

AGPL-3.0

Open source with reciprocity.

The licence gives you the right to inspect, audit, adapt, and run Metaport, with obligations that keep distributed modifications open.

Metaport Community Edition is released under the AGPL-3.0 licence. It is a copyleft licence rather than a permissive one: if you distribute a modified build, those changes must be released under the same terms.

We think that is a fair trade. It keeps the project transparent and available while giving us room to sustain and develop it.

One thing to keep in mind: the open source release is the core product only. The infrastructure, deployment tooling, billing, and the various SaaS-specific pieces that stand the hosted platform up are not part of it and remain proprietary. That split is what lets us run a viable business without asking you to give up the transparency or the freedom to self-host.
